Together, we bring trustworthy, hands-on services to homeowners and businesses, with Jory providing in-person estimates and overseeing each job himself.

This venture was born out of the ambition for Jory to put his 15 years of experience to each job, gain a little flexibility, and be present for their children. After years of Jory working with heavy machinery and honing his craft in excavation—an interest he has nurtured since he was young—we realized that launching Schmidt Dirt Works LLC would allow us to combine Jory's passion for getting “down in the dirt” with the shared vision for a family-focused life.
Our goal is to provide a trustworthy, hands-on excavation service to local homeowners and businesses - large or small. We are a dynamic husband and wife team, both bringing our strengths to the table for each project. Jory is on each and every jobsite, providing in-person estimates for each potential client and performing the work himself. Together, we want to build a culture that values teamwork with our clients, honesty, and lasting customer relationships. We strive to offer not just a service, but a partnership that respects both the land we work on and the people we serve.

I could not be more pleased with Jory’s work. This was a big job, removing and replacing a large culvert, which required digging out and then rebuilding the road over the creek bed, replacing and filling with different sized rocks and gravel and compacting to stabilize everything. Cleaned up all the mess. It looks great. He’s pleasant to work with, he knows what he’s doing, and it felt like he could thread a needle with his excavator his work was so precise. When a client noticed their aging culvert collapsing, we stepped in to provide a lasting, safety-focused solution. After doing the necessary diligence to identify any utilities in the dig area, we excavated the failing structure and replaced it with a 36-inch ADS pipe. By compacting 5/8” minus gravel in six-inch lifts around the new pipe and finishing with protective quarry spalls, we ensured proper water flow and minimized erosion risks. The result is a robust culvert system that will stand the test of time and protect the client’s property.

Grading
A client in Ravensdale, WA, needed a gentler slope suitable for planting grass after realizing the slope was causing a water drainage issue. After determining the exact grade needed, we reshaped the land by moving dirt from higher to lower elevations, compacting the soil through track-walking to stabilize the surface and minimize erosion. The result is a smoothly graded paddock, primed for grass seeding and built to stand up to the elements.

Trenching
A recent water installation project involved running a 1” PEX line from the main meter to a standalone shop over 285 feet away.
After securing the necessary city permits and carefully trenching alongside the street without damage, the client had fully functioning water in just two days.
